Dr. Dre – The Chronic

#Flashback Officially now a classic as it’s 25 years old

Why this album dropped in the midst of winter is a bit baffling, it’s pure summer time vibes. The sound and voice of the US west coast 25 years ago, Dr. Dre’s debut solo album ‘The Chronic’ also introduced us to the laid back lilt of Snoop Dogg.

We’d have to wait another seven years before he surfaced again with more solo work, but this was enough to be going with for sure.

Radio Days – DV#25

Caspa & Rusko – FabricLive.37

#Flashback One of the finest mixes from dubstep’s heyday. Now 10 years old!

The only mix to make our list this year, Caspa & Rusko’s ‘FabricLive.37’ mix came out at the height of dubstep’s commercial appeal but still retained the originality that some of the new players of the scene didn’t seem able to appreciate.

The creator’s pairing of “Cockney” tunes that prop up either end of the mix represent their own sounds superbly and define the mix.

Radio Days – DV#24

Michael Jackson – Thriller

#Flashback Happy 35th Birthday to the biggest selling album of all time

Yesterday marked the 35th anniversary of the release of what remains the biggest selling album of all time – Michael Jackson’s ‘Thriller’.

The fact that the man behind it is not with us to celebrate the fact is a great great shame. In his absence, we wanted to list each of the SEVEN singles that were released over an 18 month period, each of which hit the Billboard’s top 10.

1) The Girl Is Mine // October 1982 – #2

2) Billie Jean // January 1983 – #1

3) Beat It // February 1983 – #1

4) Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin’ // May 1983 – #5

5) Human Nature // July 1983 – #7

6) P.Y.T. (Pretty Young Thing) // September 1983 – #10

7) Thriller // January 1984 – #4

His music continues to inspire. R.I.P. The King of Pop.

The Pharcyde – Bizarre Ride II the Pharcyde

#Flashback The debut offering from the LA collective and offers a much mellower spin on the genre than many of the gangster rap plays that were coming out of the West Coast of America in the early 90s

You’ll know ‘Passin’ Me By’ from The Pharcyde for sure, but you really ought to know the album it came from; ‘Bizarre Ride II the Pharcyde’ which celebrates its 25th anniversary today.

The debut release from the LA collective offers a much mellower spin on the genre than many of the gangster rap plays that were coming out of the West Coast of America in the early 90s.
