Beating Heart – South Africa vol. 3

#NewMusic Vibrant sounds of South Africa with proceeds going towards causes striving for gender equality across South Africa

‘Beating Heart – South Africa Vol. 3’ is a 4 track EP featuring Daev Martian X Sio, Throwing Shade, Hunrosa and Thor Rixon.

Following the debut Malawi album last year, the next series of Beating Heart releases focuses on the vibrant sounds of South Africa, sampling field recordings made by Hugh Tracey back in the 1950s, with kind permission from the International Library of African Music.

Profits from the series will be used to support: the Women’s Legal Centre, a group of female lawyers striving for gender equality across South Africa, particularly for black women, whose work has had a huge impact on the country’s laws, and continues to do so; and the Access Music Project in Grahamstown where students will be able to learn production skills through remixing field recordings from the ILAM archive, learning about their heritage in the process.

Thanks to previous support, the ‘Beating Heart – Malawi’ album (Rudimental, Kidnap Kid, Clap! Clap!, Luke Vibert, Afriquoi & more) has funded the setting up of a sustainable school feeding program in Lilongwe, now feeding 450 kids once a day.

Gourmet – Yellow

#NewMusic from Cape Town, South Africa

Mixing Jai Paul-esq synth stabs with lyrics about food, or is it a person. Cape Town boy Gourmet(SpaghettiBoy) also mentions lots of colours and gluten free spaghetti in this quirky pulsing pop pick. It maybe a bit oddball but heck we like it.

Gourmet ‘Yellow’ is out now on 1991.

The Band – Patterns [EP]

#NewMusic from Johannesburg, South Africa

Emamkay and Angela Nimah are The Band, straight out of Johannesburg, South Africa. After their debut EP ‘Sunday Nector’, they’ve blessed us with another; ‘Patterns’. A mix of very mellow spoken word vocals from Angela Nimah (a.k.a Tshego Mogotsi) over minimal bass grooves, super-steady soul beats, delicate keys and the occasional extra-terrestrial synth from Emamkay (a.k.a Musa Nhlapo). Production and arrangement on this is tight, real tight!

The Band ‘Patterns’ is out now and you can download it for free.
